How location / maps QR codes work
A Google Maps URL (for example https://maps.google.com/?q=40.7128,-74.0060) is the most portable default: most phone cameras open Maps or a browser so the guest can view the place and start directions after confirming.
A geo:lat, lon URI is shorter and can hand off to a maps app via platform intents—especially on Android. On iOS, Camera and link handling for geo: can differ, so prefer the Maps URL for mixed-device print (table tents, posters, invitations).
Pair with a calendar event QR when the place is tied to a time, or with café / restaurant guides when you also need WiFi, menu, or review codes.
FAQ
What is a location / maps QR code?
A QR that encodes a place—usually a Maps URL or geo: coordinates—so a phone can open maps after a scan.
Should I use a Maps URL or geo:?
Prefer Maps URL for most print jobs (better cross-device, including many iOS Camera scans). Use geo: when you specifically want a compact lat,lon URI and have tested the target devices.
Does scanning start navigation automatically?
Usually no. The device opens a maps app or browser; the user confirms directions.
Does this location QR expire?
A static payload does not expire because of a generator trial—the data lives in the image. Maps apps still control how URLs and geo: links open.
Is this an official Google or Apple Maps tool?
No. QRStatic is not affiliated with Google, Apple, or any maps provider.
Is my address or coordinates uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
Can I use this for any location?
Only for lawful sharing—business storefronts, public events, and places you may disclose. Do not encode private or sensitive locations without consent.
